Wolper Jewish Hospital’s ongoing commitment to providing high‑quality, patient‑centred care underpinned this project, which delivered a series of upgrades to support the hospital’s rehabilitation services and enhance the experience of patients, visitors and staff. Set within the quiet streets of Woollahra, the works formed part of a broader program to modernise facilities, improve accessibility and ensure the hospital continues to meet the needs of the community.

Construction was during the height of the COVID‑19 restrictions in a fully operational hospital, requiring meticulous planning and strict safety protocols. Staging was carefully sequenced to maintain patient access, manage noise and vibration, and protect vulnerable patients and sensitive treatments. The team navigated complex challenges around passive fire protection, Building Code Australia compliance, structural engineering and existing services, all of which were resolved through collaborative problem‑solving and close coordination with hospital management.

The upgrade works included the installation of a new internal lift and shaft, an extended fire staircase, a refurbished reception area, a new café and the conversion of the attic into office and storage space. 3 new private patient rooms with ensuites were also created, increasing the hospital’s capacity while maintaining its focus on comfort, dignity and personalised care. These works required demolition, structural modifications, new building services, specialist fire systems and the integration of new clinical and administrative spaces within the existing hospital footprint, all delivered while the hospital remained at full occupancy.

The completed upgrades strengthen Wolper’s role as one of Sydney’s leading private rehabilitation hospitals, supporting its long‑standing tradition of outstanding medical care.

Wolper conducted a selective tender in 2019 for a complex renovation of our Woollahra site. Grindley was chosen not only for value but for their strong reputation working in sensitive, live environments, including sub‑acute hospital settings with high occupancy. The project later expanded to include additional refurbishment works.

The renovation was delivered on time and on budget. Grindley’s professionalism was exceptional, with outstanding day‑to‑day management that reflected a robust corporate structure and culture. Works were staged across multiple areas of the hospital, and Grindley’s site team coordinated closely with our senior management and ward staff to ensure minimal disruption to patients.
