The Western Sydney University Hawkesbury Student Accommodation project was delivered to provide high-quality, contemporary living facilities that support student wellbeing, connection and academic life. Located within the Hawkesbury Village Campus at Richmond, the development enhances the campus’ residential offering while contributing to a vibrant and inclusive student community.

The accommodation comprises 11 stand-alone residence buildings configured as a mix of single and double-storey structures. Each building contains five-bedroom apartments with shared kitchens, bathrooms, dining and lounge areas. The buildings are supported on concrete slabs-on-ground, with a combination of timber-framed and brick loadbearing walls, suspended concrete slabs to two-storey blocks and structural timber roof framing. External finishes include charcoal face brickwork, brightly coloured Vitrapanel façades, Colourbond steel sheeting and recycled Ironbark timber columns and beams supporting balconies and external stairs.

Key design features include automated high-level louvre windows for natural ventilation and an environmentally efficient hydronic heating system, utilising gas boilers and radiator panels, an innovative solution rarely seen in Australian student accommodation. Throughout the construction materials were chosen to integrate into the existing heritage and new build campus.

The project also includes a central Student Common facility with gaming, study, movie, kitchen and laundry spaces, as well as a dedicated administration building. Integrated fibre-optic data services and a full building management control system enable ongoing monitoring of essential services.

The village provides long-term accommodation that balances modern living with the natural and heritage character of the Hawkesbury Campus, fostering a supportive, connected and enduring student community.
