The transformation of Building 2 at Western Sydney University’s Campbelltown Campus delivered a vibrant new Student Hub that strengthens the student experience and supports the University’s commitment to inclusive, community‑centred learning environments. What was once a storage area and loading dock has been reimagined as a bright, contemporary space filled with colour, natural light and opportunities for collaboration.

Working within a live university campus presented significant challenges, particularly around noise, safety and maintaining access during classes, exams and peak lunch periods. The existing structure, originally designed for loading and storage, also required extensive waterproofing interventions. The team managed these complexities through careful staging, retrofit damp‑proofing, subsoil drainage, new membranes, and specialist chemical treatments to address cracking and moisture ingress, ensuring the new student spaces would remain watertight and durable.
