Following our successful completion of Stage 1, Stage 2 of Warrigal Goulburn builds on the organisation’s vision of creating vibrant, supportive communities where older people can live with independence and comfort. The project strengthens the existing aged care home and created a new Community Village, with expanded amenities and additional infrastructure.
The intent was to enhance daily living, provide more choice, and create spaces that encourage social interaction, wellbeing and a strong sense of belonging. Delivering the works across a fully operational site required careful planning, strict safety management and close coordination with Warrigal’s staff and residents. Maintaining continuity of care was paramount, particularly during the aged care extension where all existing beds remained on site and in use. Construction sequencing, noise control and clear communication ensured the live environment remained safe and functional throughout. The team also navigated the complexities of building adjacent to occupied villas and community facilities, managing access, services and staging to minimise disruption.
The project introduces contemporary, light‑filled living environments with quality fixtures and fittings. The independent living units feature open‑plan layouts, waterfall‑edge kitchen benches, private courtyards and generous glazing to maximise natural light. The central landscaped link road with its timber bridge, pergolas, barbeque facilities and communal seatings create a social heart for the new village, encouraging connection and outdoor activity. The aged care extension added 2 new wings with a central courtyard, lounge and dining spaces, administration areas and upgraded parking.
Building on the success of the earlier stages, Stage 3 works further expanded the home’s capacity, delivering 5 additional resident rooms within the Waratah Wing through the reconfiguration of existing spaces and a new building extension.
The refurbishment included the relocation of the care office and store, the conversion of existing common and treatment areas into resident accommodation and the construction of a new room extension. New emergency pathways and doorways were also introduced, improving safety and connectivity throughout the home. As with the earlier stages, the works required detailed planning and sensitive staging to minimise disruption to residents and staff while maintaining day-to-day operations.
Across all three stages, the development has transformed Warrigal Goulburn into a contemporary, future-focused community with expanded accommodation, enhanced amenities and the capacity to support residents through every stage of later life. You can read about Stage 1 here.
Sod Turn
The sod turn brought together Warrigal, residents, families and the project team to mark the beginning of Stage 2 and the next chapter in creating a vibrant, supportive community at Goulburn.
