The refurbishment of Levels 5 and 6 of the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Global existing office marked an important step in the University’s Future Campus vision: creating contemporary, flexible workplaces that support staff wellbeing, collaboration and a world‑class campus experience. The project transformed 2 outdated floors into warm, open and highly functional environments, helping shape the future of UNSW and enabling staff to return to the Kensington campus.

Delivered within a live university environment, the works required careful staging, strict WHSEQ oversight and weekly subcontractor coordination to maintain safe access. The program was re‑sequenced during the COVID‑19 lockdown to accelerate progress while the campus was closed to students, reducing risk and providing certainty that all workers and staff on site were safe.

New layout and enhancements focused on natural light, earthy tones and biophilic elements. Internal soft planting was used as screening to improve air quality and amenity while reducing cost. Significant amounts of existing joinery were retained and repurposed, minimising waste and shortening the program. Built‑in storage, individual lockers, meeting rooms, offices and open collaboration zones were arranged to maximise daylight and maintain an uncluttered, calm workspace.
