The refurbishment works at The King’s School support the school’s commitment to providing high‑quality learning and boarding environments for its students. The upgrades to the Education Support Services building and the Hake Harris and Macarthur boarding facilities were designed to create modern, functional spaces that enhance daily learning, improve accessibility and strengthen the overall student experience. These renewed buildings better support the school’s academic programs, pastoral care and the day‑to‑day needs of students and staff.

The Education Support Services building underwent a complete internal upgrade, including new teaching spaces, support areas and a full mechanical services replacement. A northern extension was constructed to provide additional classrooms and an external terrace, requiring careful integration with the existing structure and services.

The refurbishment of the Hake Harris and Macarthur buildings involved a full internal demolition and rebuild to create new boarding facilities, study rooms, lockers, breakout spaces and a new lift to improve accessibility. Externally, the works included installation of a new roof, façade restoration, new windows, decorative timber cladding and perimeter awnings. Extensive landscaping, new paving and barbeque areas further support the school’s policy to encourage outdoor play.

The project presented several construction challenges. Demolition of the existing stair structures and the integration of new stairs with complex existing roof beams required detailed temporary works and precise sequencing. Unknown in‑ground services, limited information and the discovery of leaking gas infrastructure demanded responsive problem‑solving and close coordination with the school and other stakeholders. Tree protection requirements added further constraints to site access and staging.

These renewed spaces now offer a practical, comfortable and well‑considered setting for students and staff.
