The Donald Coburn Centre refurbishment was delivered to enhance one of Anglicare’s most established aged care communities, creating contemporary living environments that support comfort, independence and quality of life for older Australians. Located in Castle Hill, the project focused on revitalising resident accommodation and communal spaces, ensuring the centre continues to provide high-quality, person-centred care in a welcoming and connected community setting.
The refurbishment was delivered within an operational aged care environment, requiring careful staging, stakeholder coordination and a strong focus on resident safety and continuity of care. Detailed planning and close collaboration with staff and existing residents ensured construction activities were carefully managed, minimising disruption.
Resident wellbeing was central to the refurbishment, with upgraded communal spaces and improved accessibility enhancing both comfort and functionality throughout the home. A striking central atrium forms the heart of the home, providing a light-filled focal point that connects refreshed lounge areas, dining spaces and resident amenities. Contemporary finishes carefully considered detailing and modernised resident rooms with upgraded ensuites create a calm, residential atmosphere that promotes dignity, independence and everyday comfort.
The full project scoped included the refurbishment of resident accommodation, communal lounges, dining areas, hospitality spaces, meeting rooms and support facilities throughout the centre. Upgraded bathrooms, shared gathering spaces and resident amenities were designed to improve the day-to-day experience for residents, visitors and staff, while delivering a consistent quality of finish throughout.
The completed refurbishment ensures the Donald Coburn Centre continues to meet the evolving needs of the Hills District community.
