The Observation Deck offer’s travellers and aviation enthusiasts a rare, up-close view of aircraft operations at Australia’s busiest airport. Completed as part of the Terminal 1 redevelopment, the deck was designed to give passengers a memorable experience. From the moment you stepped onto the terrace, the sights and sounds of jet engines, taxiing aircraft, and bustling runways brought a new perspective to air travel.

The refurbishment involved careful construction within a live, operational airport environment. Works included the installation of a lightweight steel structure, timber flooring, glazing, and an architecturally emphasised lift core to ensure safe, all-weather access. Staging and coordination were critical to maintain uninterrupted airport operations and comply with strict security requirements. The project also upgraded access to The Terrace Café and enhanced the overall deck environment, combining functionality, safety, and visual appeal in a space that allowed visitors to experience aviation up close.
