Opening on time for Term 2, St Aloysius’ College opened the re-purposed Rozelle campus, dedicated to Year 9 students. The College partnered with St Joseph Catholic Parish to transform the former girls’ school into a tailor-made learning environment that supports the pivotal stage of development for students. This project marks the College’s first presence in Sydney’s Inner West.
The project involved the adaptive re-use and fit-out of 2 existing buildings to accommodate up to 200 students. Works included the full demolition and refurbishment of the 1950’s building, addressing latent conditions such as non-compliant stairs, and structural modifications. Internally, classrooms and staff areas were upgraded with new partitions, ceilings, flooring, windows, doors, bathrooms, and a lift for accessibility. Heritage features including original chalkboards, were sensitively restored. Externally, the asphalt car park was transformed into a playground with a basketball court, seating, landscaping, decorative fencing, and custom College branding.
The Rozelle campus consists of 6 new classrooms, a music tutorial room, recreation spaces, staff areas, and additional amenities. Students also benefit from the nearby St Joseph’s Parish Church for liturgical and musical events, as well as local parks for recreational activities.
The Rozelle campus builds on a longstanding collaborative relationship between the College, PMDL Architecture + Design and our team, marking our second major project with St Aloysius’ College and one of many delivered alongside PMDL across the learning sector. This shared history of trust, clarity and aligned purpose helped shape a campus that not only meets the immediate needs of Year 9 students but also reflects the College’s broader commitment to Excellence.
