Roden Cutler Lodge was refurbished to provide residents with a modern, comfortable living environment that supports wellbeing, dignity and quality of life. Located in Gordon and operated by Anglicare, the project transformed existing accommodation and communal areas to enhance the resident experience while ensuring the facility could continue providing high-quality aged care services for years to come.

Delivered within an operational aged care environment, the project required careful staging and coordination to minimise disruption to residents, staff and visitors. The refurbishment was undertaken within a heritage-listed building, requiring a considered approach that balanced contemporary aged care, accessibility and fire safety requirements with the preservation of the building’s historic character. Extensive planning and stakeholder communication enabled the works to be completed safely while maintaining continuity of care and day-to-day operations.

Resident wellbeing was central to the design. All resident rooms were upgraded with new finishes, bespoke joinery, air-conditioning, lighting, nurse call systems and refurbished bathrooms, creating modern and comfortable living environments. The refurbishment also introduced refreshed lounge, dining and physiotherapy spaces, while new dementia-specific outdoor areas, including landscaped gardens, walking paths, pergolas, water features and sensory elements, were designed to encourage engagement, movement and connection with nature.
