The refurbishment of the heritage‑listed Ritz Cinema, strengthened one of Sydney’s most cherished cultural landmarks, enhancing its role as a community hub for film, arts and live performance. Built in 1937 and one of only two remaining original Art Deco cinemas in Sydney, the Ritz holds deep significance for the eastern suburbs.

Working within a dense hospitality precinct created significant construction challenges. Limited access, tight loading zones and constant pedestrian activity required meticulous planning and coordination. Deliveries were staged, equipment movements carefully sequenced, and all works managed to maintain public safety and minimise disruption to surrounding businesses.

The design celebrates the Ritz’s Art Deco identity, retaining its signature detailing while introducing contemporary upgrades. A new VIP subterranean cinema, refreshed foyer and bar spaces, upgraded seating in Cinema 1 and an expanded stage enhance both comfort and performance capability. The blend of heritage fabric and modern finishes ensures the venue remains authentic yet future ready.
