The Queens Park Kitchen project transformed a dilapidated sporting storage shed into a warm, community‑focused café and event space at the edge of one of Sydney’s most cherished parks. Designed to serve families, sporting groups and everyday visitors, the revitalised venue now provides a welcoming hub within Queens Park.

Working within a highly constrained site and a building in severe disrepair, the team navigated structural deterioration and strict planning limitations. Safety and continuity of public access were prioritised throughout construction, with works carefully staged to minimise disruption to the adjacent playground and busy recreational areas. The project also required extensive remediation of the existing roof and masonry, which had deteriorated to the point where daylight was visible through the tiles.

Our team was initially only engaged for the refurbishment works and was subsequently awarded the tenant fitout enabling a coordinated approach across both phases. This alignment allowed the reuse driven design intent to be embedded early, with base build treatments executed to suit the final interior finishes. As a result, the original internal walls could be wire brushed and sealed to retain their textured, timeworn appearance, intentionally matched to the rough timber and zinc elements incorporated into the café’s furniture and servery design.
