The new Punchbowl Metro Services Building delivers a critical piece of infrastructure for the Southwest Metro Stations program, supporting the shift of the Southwest line to modern Metro standards. Positioned alongside the existing station precinct, the new facility strengthens the operational network and contributes to more reliable, high‑frequency services for the local community.
Construction was carried out within a tightly controlled live rail environment, requiring disciplined staging and close coordination with rail operators. Working beside active tracks and established station assets meant navigating restricted access windows, integrating new systems without interrupting services, and maintaining rigorous safety and compliance measures throughout the build.
Purpose‑designed to support Metro operations, the building houses essential electrical and mechanical systems, along with key service routes that underpin the upgraded line. Its design emphasises resilience and operational clarity, using robust materials, secure plant areas, and clearly defined interfaces to support long‑term performance and ease of maintenance.
The scope comprised construction of the new 400m² services building, installation and commissioning of mechanical and electrical systems, connection to existing rail infrastructure, and associated external works including fencing, access paths, and secure plant zones. As part of the broader Southwest Metro upgrade, the Punchbowl Services Building enhances the reliability and capacity of the network, delivering lasting benefits for passengers and the surrounding community.
