The North Bondi Amenities project delivered a much‑needed upgrade for the Bondi community, transforming a tired 1980’s block into a welcoming and beautifully integrated public asset that supports the daily rhythms of locals, surfers and beachgoers. The new building enhances comfort, accessibility and amenity at one of Sydney’s most iconic coastal destinations.

The construction required careful management of a highly complex site. Our team had to navigate complex ground conditions, heritage constraints, Aboriginal artefacts and the presence of Sydney Water wet wells, all within a live, high‑traffic beach environment. Close coordination with authorities and stakeholders ensured safety, continuity of public access and the protection of sensitive site elements throughout demolition and construction.

The design is shaped by warm, durable materials and a strong connection to the coastal setting. Reused blackbutt and tallowwood battens, salvaged from Council’s former works depot, wrap the amenities and pump house to create a sustainable, cohesive exterior that settles naturally into the landscape. A planted roof softens the building from above, offering a greener outlook for nearby residents. Inside, terrazzo partitions, cast‑in‑situ concrete benches, curved walls and circular skylights create a bright, safe and tactile environment. A consistent horizon line ties the palette together, giving the building a calm, ordered feel that reflects the wide Bondi shoreline. Externally, a communal concrete basin and outdoor showers free up internal space for increased capacity while extending the amenity into the public domain.
