The relocation and full fitout of the court staff facilities from the Downing Centre to Level 18 at 66 Goulburn Street Sydney was undertaken to create a modern, efficient and purpose‑built workspace that better supports the operational needs of the Department of Communities and Justice. The project focused on delivering a calm, functional environment with clearly defined work zones, improved privacy and enhanced capability for staff who manage critical court reporting functions.
Working within an occupied commercial tower required careful planning, strict adherence to building management protocols and close coordination with Department of Communities and Justice stakeholders. Noise, dust and odour control were essential, and all works were delivered in accordance with the building’s tenancy fitout manual and relevant statutory requirements. The live‑environment constraints meant staging, access and communication needed to be tightly managed to avoid disruption to surrounding tenants.
The new workspace incorporates 3 distinct office sections separated by coloured partitions to provide privacy and divide the floor plate, acoustically treated rooms, 2 workshop spaces, customised storage areas, new bathrooms and a kitchen and breakout area. Full‑height walls, glazed partitions, detailed joinery and re‑specified communications and audio-visual items were also delivered.
The completed fitout provides a contemporary, efficient and well‑organised workplace that enhances staff comfort, supports operational requirements and ensures long‑term adaptability for the Department of Communities and Justice’s future staffing needs.
