The award‑winning refurbishment of MISC. Parramatta has restored a much‑loved community venue within Parramatta Park. The fire‑damaged structure has now been carefully rebuilt into a renewed gathering place for visitors, completed within the tight heritage, environmental and operational constraints of this significant public landscape. The project required a construction approach that respected the site’s cultural history, environmental constraints and the remains of the fire‑damaged structure.

Our team were engaged by the Parramatta Park Trust to refurbish and extend the existing restaurant and café, creating a new dining space, upgraded amenities, a breezeway, a timber‑framed mezzanine floor and new landscaped areas. All works were completed within the footprint of the original building to comply with strict “no‑dig” requirements designed to protect Aboriginal and early European artefacts. The team also remediated fire‑affected structural elements, salvaging and re‑using materials wherever possible.

The site’s prominent position within the parklands required disciplined traffic and pedestrian management. The team worked closely with the Trust to develop and continually refine a detailed management plan, resulting in 0 incidents throughout construction. Additional ecological controls were implemented due to the site’s proximity to the threatened Grey‑Headed Flying Fox colony, with noisy works carefully timed and equipment positioned to minimise disturbance.
