The new teaching laboratories within Macquarie University’s E8C building support the University’s ongoing investment in high‑quality learning environments. The project formed part of their Master Plan program of campus upgrades and continued our long‑standing relationship with the University, built across several successful projects.
Working within a live University campus required careful planning to minimise disruption to students, staff and adjacent research spaces. Demolition of the existing laboratories was staged to maintain safe access and manage noise, vibration and service isolation. Strict controls were implemented around hazardous materials removal, temporary service diversions and the movement of construction personnel and equipment through active campus zones.
The new laboratories incorporated specialist teaching and research elements, including laboratory benchtops and workstations, a cool room, fume cupboards and upgraded mechanical, hydraulic and electrical services. The design focused on creating durable, easy‑to‑maintain spaces that support contemporary laboratory teaching while meeting the University’s operational and safety requirements.
The completed facilities provide students and staff with modern, functional and safe laboratory environments that support hands‑on learning and research activity.
