The conversion of existing lecture rooms into 2 state‑of‑the‑art Anatomy Teaching Laboratories provides Macquarie University with modern, high‑performance learning environments that support the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in delivering world‑class anatomical education. The new facilities enhance the student experience, strengthen teaching capability and align with the University’s commitment to providing contemporary, technology‑enabled spaces for future medical professionals.
Delivered within a live university campus, the project required careful staging to maintain safe access and minimise disruption to ongoing teaching activities. Works involved installing a new air‑handling unit on the building, installing spiral ductwork to the external façade and coordinating services upgrades within an occupied environment.
The laboratories were constructed to Physical Containment Level 2 (PC2) standards, incorporating a new laminar‑flow mechanical system, upgraded air handling unit and ductwork, specialised washing facilities and an integrated audio‑visual system. Localised medical and natural gas services were retained and upgraded to support anatomy and surgical skills training.
The full project scope included full internal demolition, construction of 2 laboratories, a central technician space, a lecturer’s office and all associated mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and audio upgrades. The completed facilities provide a modern and highly functional anatomy and surgical skills environment that will support generations of medical students.
