The E4A and E4B Buildings form a key part of Macquarie University’s evolving E-Precinct, delivering contemporary learning and collaboration spaces that support the University’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and student wellbeing. The upgraded facilities enhance daily campus life, creating welcoming environments where students, academics and staff can connect, study and engage.
Delivered within an active university campus, the project required careful planning to ensure safety and continuity of operations. Construction was undertaken in a live environment, with surrounding teaching and administrative functions maintained throughout. Close collaboration with the University enabled effective staging, access management and delivery certainty, meeting the demanding timeframe set.
Sustainability and connectivity were central to the design outcome. The E4A and E4B buildings incorporate enhanced natural ventilation strategies, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and earning a Bronze Medal at the Green Building Awards. A partially enclosed atrium and glazed bridge physically and visually link the buildings, creating an all-weather hub connected to the campus’ main pedestrian spine. Landscaped courts, breakout areas and informal study pods further encourage interaction and flexible use.
The scope of works included the conversion of existing teaching spaces into academic and administrative offices, delivery of two state-of-the-art finance laboratories, computer laboratories, student services areas and café facilities. These upgrades were seamlessly integrated with the surrounding precinct.
