Macquarie Lodge Aged Care Centre represents a significant investment in the future of aged care in Sydney’s south, providing modern accommodation and specialised support services for older Australians in Arncliffe and the surrounding community. Designed to accommodate a broad range of care needs, the development delivers a contemporary residential environment that promotes dignity, comfort and quality of life while remaining connected to the area’s rich history.
The project required careful planning and coordination on a site of significant historical importance. Incorporating the heritage-listed Dappeto House, formerly operated by The Salvation Army as the Arncliffe Girls’ Home, the development balanced contemporary aged care requirements while also complimenting the heritage character of the existing building. Close collaboration between the Client, consultant team and stakeholders ensured the home was delivered safely and efficiently while maintaining a strong focus on quality, operational performance and long-term durability.
Resident wellbeing was a key driver of the design. Dedicated dementia care environments provide specialised support for residents with complex needs, while landscaped outdoor areas, an on-site chapel and pastoral care services reflect The Salvation Army’s holistic approach to care. Warm interior finishes, generous communal spaces and abundant natural light create welcoming environments that encourage social interaction, engagement and day-to-day comfort.
The development comprises 90 aged care beds accommodating high care, low care and specialist dementia care services. Communal dining and lounge areas, landscaped gardens and resident support facilities are integrated throughout the home to support a variety of lifestyle and care requirements. The project also forms part of the broader Macquarie Lodge precinct, where an independent living community was later developed, creating a continuum of care for residents as their needs change over time.
Delivered as part of a long-standing partnership with The Salvation Army, Macquarie Lodge enhances aged care services within the Arncliffe community and provides lasting benefits for residents and their families. The completed project combines contemporary care environments with a strong sense of place, ensuring older Australians have access to high-quality support in a welcoming and purpose-built setting.
