The Kevin Betts Stadium expansion strengthens Western Sydney’s most important community sporting hubs, enhancing access to inclusive and accessible sport for people of all abilities. Considered as the ‘heartbeat of Mount Druitt’, the stadium has supported wheelchair athletes and the local community since 1986. The expansion responds to growing demand, doubling capacity and creating a welcoming, modern environment for recreation, training and community connection.

Construction was delivered within a live, operational environment, requiring careful staging to maintain safe access for ongoing use of the existing courts adjacent the site. The team managed these challenges through proactive communication, strong safety systems and changing the entry to the backdoor to ensure construction did not obscure access. Collaboration with Council, Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT and project partners ensured the upgrade met both technical requirements and community expectations.

The project added a range of accessibility focused design features, which include fully compliant bathrooms, dedicated accessible parking, a hearing loop system and a high‑performance cooling system to improve comfort for athletes and spectators. Additional enhancements such as a new water fountain, improved circulation spaces and upgraded amenities ensure the stadium is inclusive and future ready.

The expansion delivered 2 full‑size accessible courts, a new reception, storage area and changing amenities, with improved parking. This significantly increased the stadium’s capacity to host sports such as basketball, volleyball, pickleball, school programs and community events. This project secures the long‑term future of a vital community asset, enabling more people across Sydney’s Greater West to participate, connect and thrive through sport.

The opening ceremony brought together Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT, Disability Sports Australia, Council, Grindley and the many users of the new courts to celebrate the completion of this vital community facility.
