The refurbishment of 8 Independent Living Units at IRT’s Woolwich community was undertaken to enhance comfort, accessibility and quality of life for residents in a setting overlooking the Lane Cove River. The project modernised ageing units to better support independent living, providing contemporary, welcoming homes that reflect IRT’s commitment to dignity, wellbeing and personalised care for older Australians.
The refurbishment works took place within a partially live retirement village. Schedules required careful planning and clear communication to ensure the residents were safe and informed. Activities were planned to minimise disruption, so residents could maintain their daily routines. The short program, combined with complex construction methodology and tight working zones, demanded a coordinated and responsive approach, an effort recognised in IRT’s testimonial praising the professionalism and performance of the project team.
The refurbishment introduced modern, durable finishes and improved functionality throughout. Each unit received a full strip‑out to create a blank canvas for new layouts, including upgraded kitchens with stone benchtops and Bosch stainless steel appliances, new bathrooms, refreshed lighting and new carpet. 2 units were reconfigured to provide a single large accessible bathroom, improving usability for residents with mobility needs. The building entry and common areas were also renewed with new carpet, wallpaper and feature artwork zones to create a warm, cohesive arrival experience.
The completed works provide residents with brighter, more functional homes that support independence and comfort. The project strengthens IRT’s long‑standing commitment to quality living environments and reflects our values of care, communication and respect in live‑environment delivery.
