Heffron Park is the largest sporting and recreation precinct in Randwick and home to one of Sydney’s most active netball communities. The Central Amenities Upgrade was delivered to provide modern, inclusive and fit-for-purpose facilities that better support women and girls participating in sport, while enhancing the experience of the thousands of players, officials and visitors who use the precinct each year.

Delivered under a Design and Construct model, the project was developed in close collaboration with Randwick City Council from concept design through to a fully resolved design and delivery solution. Early investigations identified challenging ground conditions, leading the team to adopt a low-impact “no-dig” construction methodology. By elevating the structure and minimising excavation, existing infrastructure and site conditions were protected, construction risk was reduced, and greater certainty around cost and programme was achieved.

Construction was undertaken within a busy recreational environment that remained heavily used throughout the project. To maintain public access and safety, temporary amenities were provided while the existing facility was demolished and rebuilt. Investigations were completed to identify live underground services, while careful planning was required to work around existing rainwater tanks and protect significant trees bordering the site. Vehicle movements through the park were managed using dedicated spotters and traffic control to ensure the safety of park users and sporting groups.
