Caggara House delivers a thoughtful, socially driven housing model that supports seniors wishing to downsize while staying connected to their community. Developed with the Department of Housing and Public Works, the project provides high‑quality, affordable homes that balance privacy, independence and social interaction. Its two buildings, Kaggur and Mabul are named after the aboriginal word for “echidna” and the traditional name for nearby Mount Gravatt.

Delivered on a constrained site covering 90% of the block, the project required careful planning and sequencing. Limited access meant all major deliveries were coordinated through a single one‑way driveway serviced by the tower crane, with only minimal materials stored onsite. The landscaped podium level demanded significant logistical effort, including pumping 200m³ of soil and craning all turf, plants, pavers and materials in bags before being placed by hand. Additional space was secured by leasing the neighbouring block for the site office, concrete pumps and small deliveries, ensuring construction could progress efficiently and safely within a dense residential setting.
