The upgrades at 68 Harrington Street were delivered to transform the building’s arrival experience and create a more functional, welcoming and contemporary entry point for tenants and visitors in the heart of The Rocks. The project strengthens the building’s connection to its busy CBD precinct while improving day‑to‑day amenity for all users.
Construction took place in a highly constrained live environment within The Rocks, with limited access from Harrington Street and an operational Duty Free retail centre directly below. The main lift foyer was also closed for separate refurbishment works, requiring the diversion of office workers and careful coordination of pedestrian movements. Detailed staging, strict safety controls and close communication with building management ensured the works were delivered safely and with minimal disruption to daily operations.
The design introduced a series of refined upgrades to modernise the building’s interface and improve circulation. Key features included a new café, a formal waiting area, upgraded bathroom facilities and a new building manager’s office. The removal of the existing escalator and access lift allowed for a more efficient layout, supported by new stairs and a platform lift riser to enhance accessibility.
The full project scope included the demolition of the existing foyer, refurbishment of the adjoining tenancy and construction of all new internal elements, including partitions, services, finishes and joinery.
The completed works deliver a refreshed, functional and future‑ready entry that enhances the building’s value, improves user experience and supports the long‑term commercial viability of this important CBD asset.
