2015 Master Builders Association NSW Excellence in Housing Award - Lifestyle Living Over 55's (Open Price Category)

'The Brighton' designed by internationally acclaimed Architect Leo Campbell, is Catholic Healthcare’s newest retirement village development.  Located in a heavily populated residential area and adjacent to Catholic Healthcare’s Aged Care Facility, ‘The Brighton’ consists of 101 Independent Living Units over five buildings, with a mix of two and three bedroom apartments, and associated community facilities including a day spa, theatre, indoor heated plunge pool and dining hall. The building includes a single basement podium car park.

Grindley's contract was Design and Construct, with all consultants retained by Grindley or its contractors. The project progressed through design development with staged construction certificates to facilitate the timely commencement of the works.

Design and construction documentation was developed in open consultation with the representatives of Catholic Healthcare with formal design meeting occurring on a fortnightly basis. Value Management initiatives included, the rationalisation of services risers and cores and, incorporating same into a DINCEL core structure, freed up floor space in lobbies. The incorporation of toilet and kitchen exhaust grills in the balcony soffit provided a clean architectural solution whilst reducing the floor space dedicated to services risers.

A prototype room was built in the basement of the building during the early stages to support detailed resolution of finishes and room layouts. Two separate display units were delivered with site access granted to Catholic Healthcare’s sales team to support the client with presales across different areas of the site.
