Comment Working with an extremely neglected school and a limited budget
the challenge was to provide an insertion into the school network that addressed the brief for a Resource Centre while fixing
un-briefed existing school problems, including flooding and poor permeability through the site. Grindley Construction worked
closely with Lightwave through the schematic design phase to identify what areas of buildings to be demolished could be
re-used to provide the school with additional spaces that were also desperately needed. The final solution re-used an
existing suspended slab to provide a covered play area that doubled as an outdoor performance space with the inclusion
of a stage/outdoor learning area as the entry to the resource centre. Agreeing to frame the floor rather than the traditional
slab on ground, Grindley provided the opportunity for the new resource centre to connect on grade to the existing path
network and provide an integration of spaces and levels between the oval, new resource centre, covered play space and
rest of the school.
